Titling

Including text and written language in your Horizon film is an option to consider, whether just for the title and credits or for captions throughout.

Take a look below at some unique examples of how you might incorporate titling in your own creation.

In this Greta Thunberg short film, the establishing shot opens with titling on the bottom of the screen. Specifically, it’s in a typewriter format and appears one word at a time. The producer of the film chose to include captions for everything being said. Creative titling is also used in intentional moments, such as to introduce a second speaker at 0:38, as calls to action toward the end of the film, and in the final credits.

Jason Reynolds uses a simple sitting combined with titles to animate and accentuate what he is saying in his poem. Pay attention to the different fonts and colors used, and especially to the movement of the titling in relation to the feeling it creates.

This David Whyte video only uses titling in the beginning and end, for a starting title and captions, which is another way you may choose to use text in your short film.
